The Clubhouse at DC Ranch, a social center for golf and upscale dining, is nestled into a plateau overlooking the golf course and the commanding nighttime views of the City of Phoenix. Designed in the style of stately turn-of-the-century Arizona courtyard ranch houses, the architecture responds to the Sonoran Desert climate with thick walls, low-scaled residential massing, outdoor terraces, and a walled courtyard which provides an inner sanctuary and protection from desert storms. Outdoor Kiva-style fire pits and stone fireplaces provide lounge areas in the evening hours when the temperatures drop and during the winter season. The interiors are an intentionally eclectic mix of styles which creates a very intimate residential ambience. Vibrant color washes and artful hand painting radiate the natural desert sunrise and sunset colors, not unlike French bistros and Italian restaurants. Overall, this Clubhouse evokes a very regional character with residential scale and a worn, antiqued feel.
